Back to Basics: How to Reset Routines When Life Shifts

Let’s be honest—routines are great… until life throws a plot twist your way.

Whether it’s a new job, a change in your household rhythm, or just one of those “nothing feels stable” kind of seasons, it’s easy to feel like all your systems suddenly stop working. And when everything’s up in the air, even the thought of planning can feel overwhelming.

I’m in one of those seasons right now. Things are changing behind the scenes in our family, and while it’s all good stuff—it’s also a lot. I’ve had to take a deep breath, go back to basics, and rework what routine even means right now.

So today, I want to talk about how to reset when things feel messy—and how a few simple planner tools can help you create a sense of calm in the chaos.

🧠 Start with a Brain Dump

When your brain is overloaded, your planner isn’t just for “plans.”
Use it as a space to process.

The Planning & Journaling Kit has several pages perfect for this—lined pages, prompts, and even open space that doesn’t demand structure. This is where I pour out the mental clutter:

  • Everything that’s on my mind

  • All the tasks swirling in my head

  • What I wish my routine looked like

  • What’s actually realistic in this season

No rules. Just get it out.

🧩 Rebuild One Piece at a Time

Instead of trying to force your old routine to fit your new reality, try asking:
What’s one small rhythm I can anchor into this week?

For me, that might be writing out a to-do list the night before. Or keeping mornings distraction-free for 30 minutes. It’s not about perfection—it’s about intentionality.

The Reflect & Reset insert is perfect here. At the end of each week, I use it to look at what worked, what didn’t, and where I want to shift. It keeps me grounded and gives me permission to course correct instead of giving up.

🧭 Focus on What You Can Control

You don’t have to plan your whole life right now. You just need a place to land.

Some days that might be journaling a few thoughts. Others, it’s a quick priority list or a schedule scribbled in the margin. It all counts.

Going back to basics isn’t about doing less—it’s about making space for what actually matters.

💛 Ready to Reset?

If you’re in a transitional season too, you’re not alone. The Planning & Journaling Kit and Reflect & Reset insert have been game changers for me—and they might be exactly what you need to find your footing again.

You can grab them individually or check out our June bundle specials (which are over 40% off!). They’re great whether you’re creating a personal planner, journaling space, or just need something simple and steady to hold your thoughts.

Because sometimes, going back to basics is the most powerful way to move forward.
