Organize Your Month for Success: A Simple Guide for the Busy Woman

September is here, and with it comes a fresh start. It’s the perfect time to organize your month for success so you can achieve your goals without feeling overwhelmed. Whether you’re juggling work, family, or personal projects, having a clear plan for the month can make all the difference. Let’s dive into a practical approach to organizing your month for success, complete with the best inserts and accessories to help you stay on track.

Step 1: Set Clear Monthly Goals

The first step in organizing your month is to set clear, achievable goals. Think about what you want to accomplish in the next 30 days. Whether it’s launching a new project at work, spending more quality time with family, or taking time for self-care, having specific goals will give you direction.

The goals insert helps you to clearly identify your goals and then break them down into actionable steps. Use the space to set key milestones, as well as to document your “why” so that you can stay motivated to achieve that goal. There’s lots of room for brainstorming the detailed steps that you will need to carry forward into your weekly/monthly plans.

Step 2: Plan Your Monthly Layout

Once you have your goals in mind, it’s time to map out the month. Start by filling in important dates like work deadlines, family events, and personal appointments. This gives you a bird’s-eye view of what your month looks like, helping you balance your time effectively.

Now, it might feel like duplicate work at first, but I have both a 12-month monthly insert that I maintain all year long, as well as the Planning & Journaling insert, which also includes a monthly view. I use them for two totally different purposes. I also recommend adding color-coded stickers or using highlighters to differentiate between work, family, and personal activities.

The 12-month monthly (you can choose your favorite monthly layout – I like the one that runs January – December, but you may prefer the school-schedule oriented one that runs July – June) is used to keep up with all of your appointments, key dates, and overall view of your month.

The monthly layout in the Planning & Journaling insert can be used for a variety of things – you can use it to write the detailed steps for your goals. As a direct seller, I use it to plan and track my monthly content plans. Some other fun options for this second monthly layout are:

  • Meal Planning
  • Home Maintenance Schedule
  • Garden Planning
  • Gratitude and Reflection Journal
  • Reading and Learning Tracker
  • Fitness and Wellness Calendar

Step 3: Break Down Weekly Tasks

Now that you have an overview of the month, break it down week by week. This helps to make big goals feel more manageable. Allocate tasks and set deadlines within each week, so you’re not scrambling at the last minute.

If you’re using the Planning & Journaling Insert, there are four sets of dot grid pages that you can use to draw your favorite weekly layouts, or you can grab a separate weekly insert. If you’re still figuring out which layout you like, I suggest the Weekly Sampler Insert – it’s a great opportunity to try a variety of layouts to see which ones work best for you. If you want to use both the Planning & Journaling along with a weekly, you can use the dot grid pages for brainstorming and quick notes throughout the week.

Step 4: Track Your Progress

Staying on track is easier when you can see your progress. Use habit trackers or progress charts to monitor how you’re doing. Whether it’s sticking to a workout routine, drinking more water, or making time for daily reflection, tracking helps keep you accountable.

The Goals & Habit Tracker insert is great for tracking multiple habits/activities throughout the month (and the insert will cover a full year!). It has space to track both weekly and monthly habits/activities that are going to help you reach your goal. This insert makes it easy for you to just check off that daily activity instead of having to write it out each week/day on your to-do list. You’ll love seeing those checkmarks add up! Alternatively, you can use the habit tracker in the “Planning and Journaling” insert to keep tabs on your primary habit that you want to work on.

Step 5: Add Some Fun Accessories

Who says planning can’t be fun? Spruce up your planner with accessories that not only look great but also add functionality. Think washi tape, stickers, and colorful pens. These small touches can make your planning sessions something you look forward to.

Fun Accessories:

  • Washi Tape: Add borders to your pages or highlight important sections. Also great for covering up “oops” moments. Trust me, we all have them!
  • Stickers: Use icon stickers to mark important tasks or events.
  • Pens and Markers: A set of colorful pens can make writing in your planner more enjoyable. And you’ll definitely want to add some markers (No alcohol-based ones! Those will bleed for sure!) if you’re using the Planning & Journaling insert.

Step 6: Review and Reflect

At the end of each week, take a few minutes to review what you’ve accomplished and what still needs attention. This reflection helps you adjust your plans as needed, ensuring you’re always moving forward.

Suggested Insert: Notes Insert

Whether you use a Notes Insert or pages in the Planning & Journaling Insert, use this space for considering what went well and what could be improved, helping you set up the next week and month for even greater success.

Final Thoughts

Organizing your month doesn’t have to be a chore. With the right tools and a clear plan, you can take control of your time and work steadily toward your goals. Remember, it’s not about doing everything—it’s about doing what matters most. Grab your favorite inserts, add some fun accessories, and start planning your month for success!
