In this post, we’ll dive into various techniques and ideas for using washi tape to enhance your planner, decorate your space, and complete DIY projects. Learn how to make the most of this versatile tape and incorporate it into your creative routine for stylish and functional results.

If you’ve been hanging out with me for long in our Chaos Coordinator Community, you know that washi tape (aka wasabi tape – shout out to Mallory for this fun name) is one of my favorite planner accessories. Today, let’s dive into some fun and functional ways to use washi tape in your planner, with a couple of bonus non-planner uses thrown in for good measure!

1. Divider Delights

Use washi tape to create dividers or tabs in your planner. This makes flipping to specific sections a breeze and adds a pop of color to your pages. Simply fold a small piece over the edge of the page, trim to size, and voila! Instant tab. Keep reading to see this one in action! 😉

2. Frame Your Focus

Highlight important dates, deadlines, or goals by framing them with washi tape. It’s a great way to draw your attention to key tasks and keep your eyes on what matters most.

3. Make It Monthly

Jazz up your monthly layout by using washi tape to create borders for each day or week. This not only looks adorable but also helps to visually organize your schedule. If you want to color code your pages, you can even use it as a border on the edge to group your month/weeks together! I’ve got an example at the end for you to see!

4. Task Tracking

Create a custom habit tracker or to-do list using washi tape. Lay down strips to form grids or sections and fill them in with your daily tasks. It’s a visually satisfying way to track your progress and keep motivated.

5. Add Some Art

Feeling crafty? Use washi tape to create mini artworks or designs in your planner. From geometric patterns to cute little scenes, the possibilities are endless. It’s a fun way to add a personal touch to your pages.

6. Page Repair

Got a ripped page? No problem! Washi tape to the rescue. Use it to mend torn pages, adding both function and flair. Your planner will be back in business in no time, and it’ll look pretty cool, too. This is definitely one that I’ve used before, whether it was me accidentally tearing a page, or messing up a spot by removing a sticker…washi tape covers a lot of “oopsies”!

7. Create Custom Stickers

Make your own stickers by placing washi tape on wax paper or sticker paper. Cut out your desired shapes or designs, and you have custom stickers ready to peel and stick wherever you need them.

8. Label Love

Outside the planner, washi tape is perfect for labeling. Use it to tag storage boxes, jars, cables, or any other items that need a bit of organization. It’s an easy way to keep things tidy and stylish. Personally, I’ve used it to label my tea tins.

9. Bookmarks & Page Flags

Create removable bookmarks or page flags with washi tape. Simply fold a piece over the edge of a page or stick it to a paperclip for a DIY bookmark that can move with you. This was easy peasy and you can keep it matching your planner design if you like things to be coordinated.

10. Personalize Your Gear

Add some washi tape to your pens, phone cases, chargers, or any other accessories to give them a unique, personalized touch. It’s a simple way to make your everyday items a bit more fun.

Washi tape is the secret weapon of the planning world—functional, fabulous, and so much fun to use. Whether you’re decking out your planner or adding some pizzazz to your everyday items, the only limit is your creativity. So grab your favorite rolls of washi and start decorating!
