How to Stop Procrastinating and Get Stuff Done (Even in Summer)
When Summer Slows You Down (and Not in a Good Way)
Summer is supposed to feel easy, right? Long days, iced coffee, maybe a little extra rest.
But for many of us—especially moms, entrepreneurs, or anyone balancing family, work, and life—summer can actually feel more scattered than serene. With schedules out the window and distractions at every turn, procrastination creeps in fast.
And when you’re already juggling a lot, that “I’ll do it later” voice can get loud.
That’s why I’m leaning on one of my all-time favorite productivity strategies right now:
✨ Eat That Frog. ✨
What Does “Eat That Frog” Even Mean?
It comes from the book Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy, and the core idea is this:
👉 Do your most important (and often most dreaded) task first.
That’s your “frog”—the thing you keep avoiding but know would make your day better if it were done.
Whether it’s recording a video, making that awkward phone call, or starting a project you’ve been putting off for weeks—eating the frog early helps you feel confident, focused, and in control of your day. 🐸
Why We Really Procrastinate (Hint: It’s Not Laziness)
Procrastination isn’t about being lazy—it’s about being overwhelmed, unsure, or anxious. Sometimes it’s:
-
Not knowing where to start
-
Worrying about doing it wrong
-
Feeling like you need a whole day to tackle it (spoiler: you don’t)
That’s where planning systems come in. A simple, doable routine gives you the clarity and structure to push past the stuckness—especially in the chaos of summer.
📝 5 Simple Ways to Eat the Frog (Planner Style)
Want to actually start knocking things off your list without burning out? Here are five easy ways I simplify my planning using my Tula XII system:
1. Pick Your Frog Daily
Each morning, identify one task you’ve been avoiding—and do that first. Just one! You’ll build confidence with every frog you eat.
💛 Neurospicy Note: Your “frog” might not be the biggest, hardest thing. Sometimes it’s a smaller win (like unloading the dishwasher or sending an email) that gets your dopamine flowing. That quick hit of success can give you the momentum to tackle something bigger. Be flexible. Adapt. Your version of productivity is still valid.
2. Use a Top 3 List
Limit yourself to three priorities per day. This cuts the overwhelm and makes room for flexibility (because #momlife). I love that most of our weekly inserts have space for me to write those top three literally at the top of my list. Hallelujah!
3. Color-Code Your Focus
Use stickers or color dots to block off short time windows for deep work, errands, or even rest. Your brain loves visual cues. I like to use color-coded ink for categories, and then I highlight things as I’ve completed them so that I can easily visually see my progress.
4. Brain Dump Everything First
Start with a dot grid brain dump to clear the mental clutter. You’ll feel more focused just by getting it out of your head. This is why I love the brain dump weekly insert….it has space built into it every week for me to do this!
5. Break Frogs Into Tadpoles
If your task feels too big, break it down into smaller steps. “Outline the project” or “send the first email” feels way more doable than “launch the whole thing.”
My Personal Frog This Week 🐸
My frog this week? Pre-recording and pre-scheduling as much content as possible—because July is full of travel and chaos!
So far, I’ve gotten a solid start: a few of my regular team posts are scheduled, and I’ve mapped out a plan to record video content over the long weekend (hallelujah for long weekends, am I right?! 🙌).
We’re hitting the road tonight after work, and I’m really hoping my husband will drive so I can get a few more things knocked out while I ride shotgun with my laptop.
It’s not perfect, but it’s progress. And that’s exactly what eating the frog is all about.

Final Thoughts
Summer doesn’t have to be unproductive or overwhelming. A few intentional choices each day can help you build momentum and still enjoy the season.
Start small. Eat one frog. Celebrate the win.
Until next time—keep planning with purpose, and coordinate that chaos. 💛
