Un-Anniversaries

Un-anniversaries offer a unique opportunity to reflect on the milestones and moments that shape our lives, whether they’re joyful or challenging. In this post, we’ll explore the concept of un-anniversaries and how acknowledging these non-traditional dates can provide a fresh perspective on your journey. Embrace the chance to celebrate or process these special moments in your own way, and discover how un-anniversaries can enhance your personal growth and planning.

Today would’ve been my 11th wedding anniversary. What do you do on those days that were supposed to be important days but now they aren’t? How are you supposed to feel? Do you acknowledge the day at all or let it pass by without any fanfare?

Last year, the day came and went without me even recognizing what day it was. Although, the day afterwards, I had the joy of meeting a process server for the first time. I distinctly remember that day, haha. This year, I’m aware of the day, but I don’t really feel anything one way or the other. I think I’m more aware because of the ongoing disputes with my ex that have now lasted for over a year.

Maybe you still have good feelings towards your ex, and you can focus on the good that resulted from your previous marriage. Maybe you feel a little disappointment that it didn’t last. I would just encourage you to ensure that your current spouse feels secure about your marriage.

Maybe you’re like me, and you just shrug your shoulders and keep on with the day. Or maybe, you still are holding on to bitterness and resentment (and perhaps I’m in denial about this). If that’s the case, I would encourage you to do some soul searching.

This was part of our family devotion last night, and both DJ and I had to pray for our former spouses. It was hard (especially since I was not naming names as my children were praying with us and they are clueless that there’s even anything going on). It was uncomfortable. It was not in my nature. I didn’t want to do it, to be honest. However, I encourage you to pray for your former spouse, to pray for goodness to come into their life, for them to be blessed, perhaps even for them to come to know the Lord. We don’t know what is going on or has gone on in their past to cause them to do whatever they have done (or are doing) to hurt you. As believers in Christ, we are called to follow His Word. And His Word is pretty clear about this.

“But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you.”‭‭Luke‬ ‭6:27-28‬ ‭NLT‬‬
